37 Rebel-rouser (1 week after the Minority)

One week has passed after I took photo of the "Minority" cherry blossom, when I was about to walk under it again, the image made me laugh. Why? Because as you can see, it blooms flowery with its new leaves coming out at the same time.

I'm not quite sure about it but I understand usually sakura flowers don't accompany leaves, do they?

Well it might be really a minority, a rebel-rouser.

36 Minority

When spring comes I always ask myself if I can appreciate the cherry blossom. Unfortunately the answer would be "not specially, I guess." (I'm sorry for friends who are genuine lovers of sakura!)

I do like nothing better than the scenary of green trees, green grass, green leaves.
I love walking in the forest when trees are coming into leaf much better than gathering to watch cherry blossom. To me the colour of spring is not flower but sprout.

It's not because of my perversity nor the hey fever, but it's a simple question towards the symbolic images that cherry blossom are expected to carry. Simply, how can you say sakura is "fragile and short-lived"? On the contrary they can live hundreds of years. Maybe I don't understand that sissy images shared with everybody toward cherry blossom. Maybe I am minority.

I saw one of them stretching behind a vending machine, in the middle of the building wall. It's energetic and even cheerful. Flowers will soon be lost, but it's somewhat free and easy as if it's the minority.

35 Searching, Spotting, Shooting

高層ビルの窓ひとつひとつの向こうに、自分と同じように働いている人たちがいて、そこには同じように膨大でうんざりするほどの情報の山が居座り、情報の海が押し寄せています。

まあ、仕事なら仕方ない。

でも仕事のためではなく

自分のための情報をどうやって得ますか？情報は探し求めるもの、自分から取りに行くもの、予期していなくても目の前を通ったらつかまえるものです。

写真を撮ることと実によく似ているのです。

「こんな景色を撮りたいから探しに行く」
「目の前に撮りたい光景があったらシャッターをきる」

34 Evergreen

Today we had heavy cold snow in Tokyo. I don't call it snow, cause snow which I know is totally different. To me Real Snow is just like feather created from many pieces of a crystal. I suppose you can imagine how beautiful, light and dazzling snow is.


Well I'm not going to talk about snow here, but I realize another beauty in snow field; Evergreen.

33 MTV : music television

高校生のころ、MTVは私にとってディズニーランドのように楽しい存在、相棒でした。一日中、Music videoが見られる放送局で、そのシニカルでおちゃらけた雰囲気がいかにも米国な感じがして、随分とあこがれたものです。VJか、またはMusic videoの監督になることが夢でした。

そんなMTVの、米国の底力を見せつけられたことがあります。Kurt Cobainが亡くなったとき、それはMTVワールドにとって緊急事態でした。ニュースが流れたその直後から、彼の混乱したファンを救うための専門のホットラインが示され、普段は「おちゃらけた」VJたちが、真剣に、真摯に、この出来事にメディアとしてどう対処するかを考え、行動を起こしていたように思えました。

32 Lost in Transient

Well it's just so difficult to explain this feeling.

One sunday I was away from my home and stood in the snowy field at 9 am. I spent exactly 12 hours on the island but it seemed to me it was 2-3 days trip.

It's little bit different from saying, "time passes slower in countryside than in a city." No, I guess time passes as always the same.

It's not the time that change but me, as if I suddenly become free from time. I don't need the time. i don 't need to think of time, catch the time, follow the time, or anything. I have no idea what made me so.

31 Filmmaker's World

夜寝付けないということはほとんどないのですが、もしそんなことがあったら、羊を数えるかわりに試してみたいゲーム。勝ちも負けもエンドもないゲームですが。

ある俳優（または監督）からスタートして、その俳優が共演した別の俳優、またはその俳優が出演した映画の監督の作品に出ている別の俳優、を思い浮かべてつなげるだけです。

たとえばイングリッド・バーグマン。

この名女優が、「オリエント急行殺人事件」で共演したアルバート・フィニー。アルバート・フィニーが出た「エリン・ブロコビッチ」の監督はスティーブン・ソダーバーグ。ソダ―バーグといえば、監督作「オーシャンズ11」に出たジョージ・クルーニーが、「ピースメイカー」で共演した二コール・キッドマンが、「めぐりあう時間たち」で共演したメリル・ストリープが、「クレイマー、クレイマー」で共演したのがダスティン・ホフマン。ダスティン・ホフマンと「アガサ」で共演したヴァネッサ・レッドグレーブが…「オリエント急行殺人事件」でイングリッド・バーグマンと共演…

他愛ない遊びですが、肝心なのは直観的に「どの映画が思い浮かぶか？」そこから先はありとあらゆるつながりの可能性があります。サークルのようにぐるっと回ってもどってくることもあれば、あきれるほど果てしなくいろいろなつながりを発見したりもします。

映画界というのはきっと、必ず誰かが誰かを知っているのではないでしょうか。「一度は一緒に仕事をしたことのある人たち同士」で構成されている世界なのではないでしょうか。

「彼とは、昔一緒に仕事をした」
「彼女のことは、仕事仲間から良く聞いている」

俳優や監督たちがもしこんなふうに語るとすると、Filmmaker's Worldは、なんだか一つの大きな会社のように思えてくるのです。
