528 Repeater

I often watch a certain cinema several times at theater. In fact I do like to repeat watching one film that I favor and very often I bring someone to enjoy with. Friends, family, and so on. It's great if I see it by myself and devote myself to the wonderful experience but it becomes much more fun to introduce them my favorites from "Frozen" to "Starwars", "Dior and I" or "Midnight in Paris". It's actually an act of entertaining them through which I also get quite happy for the achievement, more than just to enjoy myself. They kindly ask if I don't mind watching the same work that I know the story and ending just to recommend it to them, and I always feel and tell that it's perfectly okay because it brings greatest joy if I can make them happy with the shared interest and feeling toward the film. And afterwards, it's really awesome to discuss the feeling and exchange opinion with friends and families over coffee. 

At least everyone may agree that there're tons of fine films which deserve to be seen more than once. It's just like reading one's favorite books over and over again, or listening to the favorite music thousands times. To go to theaters several times surely costs us a lot, but it can be a joyful opportunity to carry out your entertaining and hospitality abilities, which is such a fun.

527 Dior and I

"Dior and I"はクリスチャン・ディオールのデザイナーに就任したラフ・シモンズが最初のオートクチュールコレクションを完成させるまでの8週間のドキュメンタリーです。舞台はほぼ全編ディオールのアトリエ内、登場人物はデザイナーと職人たち。それにも関わらずハイファッションに興味があろうとなかろうと人を惹き付けずにはおかない強い引力を感じる傑作です。老舗メゾンのオートクチュールといえばファッションの最高峰ですが、それが造られる過程を描くこの映画には「美しさ」や「煌びやかさ」や「高級さ」は最後のショーが開始されるまで殆どどこにも見えません。その代わり画面に映るのは、繊細で温厚そうな人柄がデザイン作業が始まるやいなや、まるで苦悶しているかのような鬼気迫る表情を崩さないデザイナーと、彼を支える誇り高く気丈な職人たち、そして独自の価値観でハイブランドビジネスを動かす関係者たちの妥協なき戦いの日々です。クリエイティブであることとはかくも厳しく徹底した努力と自分自身の限界との戦いを意味するのです。しかし彼らも普通の人間であり、弱さもあればグチもこぼし、ユーモアも皮肉も軽口も必要です。全編にひきしまった緊張感を湛えながらもその辺りも非常にうまく描かれています。こうして出来上がった服をモデルが纏ってショーが始まったとき、その美しさと完成度のためにすべての過程が存在したことを思い、改めて、オートクチュールの世界の服の次元を超えた美しさを目の当たりにするのです。ディオールの顧客であるハリウッド女優から著名デザイナーまで数多くのセレブリティがショーを見守りますが、普段はどこに出ても主役となるであろう女優達が子供のようにこれらの服に目を輝かせ、このときばかりは作品の圧倒的な美の前に彼女達の存在も霞むほどでした。

526 I'm Just Chilling

Once in a while I dare to write about myself and my life here. Usually I intentionally avoid it just because I think my own personal life is not worth telling and sharing. In short, I suppose most readers feel like "this is none of my business" when reading about it. Nevertheless, it isn't so bad to try it for a change sometimes.

Due to my family issues and so called work-life balance, I've started to work half of the ordinary work time in weekdays. I get lots of free time and liberation from long-and-late time working style which I've been doing for more than 10 years. I might be sacrificing my career expansion, promotion and of course, remuneration.  But during this free time in the middle of my working life, I will rest myself, take care of my family, train my body and mind for a better health, refine my outfit, meet people, broaden cultural and artistic experience, learn, study, read, think, have some fun, and discover my new possibility and opportunity for the next 10 years. Isn't it worth trying?

It's interesting that all through my professional career I only had "All work" or "No work". It really is interesting to have "Half work" experience. It doesn't matter if it succeeds or not, as this is another challenge which happens from time to time in our life. I decided to take this step and chose this way, but somehow I feel as if I was led to, and meant to take this opportunity just like a hibernation for a several months.

And right now I'm just chilling - to thank for and to get accustomed to my new life.

Star WarsのGeorge Lucas監督が60年代のティーンエイジャーの群像劇を描いたAmerican Graffitiは青春ものとしてクラシックの貫禄がある傑作です。高校を卒業し大学へと旅立つ前夜のちょっとした冒険の数々ですが、「ロックンロールと大きなアメリカ車と夜のカーレース」がパッチワークのように織りなすMTV的な映像という最初の印象は、それから何年も経って見直した時には見事に一掃されました。この映画が捉えた楽しげで不安定な雰囲気、リアルなドキュメンタリーのようでいて不思議な寓話のようなドラマ、そして終始そのドラマを盛り上げ彩るロックミュージックと「DJウルフマン・ジャック」のラジオ・ショーが突飛な人物たちの冒険を守護天使のように見守る夜の空気の中、まるで生き物のように滑らかに走り続け、並走し、疾走する若者たちの車。それらすべてが当時も今でもきわめて斬新な感覚であった筈です。大きな事件はないものの、無資格で酒を買おうとしたり、カーレースを挑発したり、車を盗まれたり、恋人と喧嘩したり、不良に連れ回されたり、パトカーを破壊したり、DJに会いに行ったり、それぞれ他愛もなく脈絡もない夜遊びで時間をつぶしているものの、その夜こそが一生記憶に残る冒険と成長の物語であり、「落書きだが残す価値のあるもの」—"Graffitti"というタイトルはそれをこの上なく体現しています。

524 The Social Network

facebookの創業を巡る争いと葛藤を描いた映画「Social Network」は、その一見スキャンダラスなテーマとはかけ離れた非常にクールな、純粋に映画としての面白さに満ちた傑作です。現実のfacebookザッカーバーグ氏の実話ではない、あるいは、大筋で彼の非凡さを捉えているとしてもエピソードの数々はフィクションである、という理解があるかないかに関わらず、映画はそんなことを考える間も与えずに観る者を惹き付けます。学生寮で、オフィスで、訴訟の場で、電話で、パーティで、登場人物はひたすら早口で喋り続け、そのプロセスがそのまま映画を形作ります。全編にわたるスタイリッリュな映像、控えめに響くクールなデジタル音楽が、ハーバード大学の秀才達の冴えた頭脳の衝突と不穏な葛藤を強く印象づけます。しかしこの映画は訴訟やサクセスストーリーや荒稼ぎや友情の終焉といったドラマチックな、いかにも映画的な要素を主要なテーマにしてしまうことを巧みに避け、一連の出来事を客観的に淡々と追いかけ、必要以上の熱は込めず、観客の感情を揺さぶろうとすることもなく、その観点には皮肉も批判も賞賛もなく、ただ、この興味深いストーリーを緻密にしかし手際良く理解し結論を出してしまった観察者のような、知的なテンションが強く感じられます。その姿勢はまるで、主人公のザッカーバーグ氏の姿勢そのものです。
