Frankly I never knew there is dispute on the Disney's description of women characters. I understand it's inevitable to compare old classics to our modern masterpieces with bold ideas and sophisticated concept of today's complex world - such as Zootopia. But movie can be also a fantasy, and fantasy has many aspect from magical fairytales in Medieval Europe to adventurous myth in the sea. Aurora is the most conventional and conservative one, but I cannot deny the charm of her singing Once Upon A Dream, and I find Sleeping Beauty is not the story about her any way, but it's a story about traditional battle of good and evil. It's quite like the battle of Harry, Hermione and Ron against Lord Voldemort. In many ways the true heroines are the three brave fairies, and Aurora is more like a symbol of light and hope.
Moana is wonderfully active and brilliant with well-balanced inner excellence, which at the end conquer the evil and create peace in a very modern way. It's interesting to see her way of facing the evil, with muscles and speed against coconut pirates, and with something more delicate and profound against volcanic demon. The modern heroine no longer used sword and shield.
